Paul is one of 11 million people in the world affected by a rare skin condition that makes natural grass an intolerable surface to play on and the new lawn in his backyard garden will help transform his life.

A YOUNG allergy sufferer’s dream of playing football on a world class pitch has come true thanks to UK – TV presenter Eamon Holmes.

As reported, six-year-old Paul Braithwaite suffers from eosinophilic gastroenteropathy, a rare condition which makes him allergic to many things, including grass.

But now, thanks to Eamon and the team at This Morning, Paul will be able to play football on a “premier league” surface.

Eamon has arranged for local firm Easy Plants and Lawns to replace Paul’s back garden lawn with [ artificial grass ].

The fake grass is used in football stadiums around the world, including the Amsterdam Arena, home of Dutch superstars Ajax.

As reported, Paul is one of 11 million people in the world affected by the rare condition and the new lawn will help transform his life.

His mum, Kelly Thornton, said she hoped Paul would be more comfortable from now on.

She said: “He goes out there and plays football [on natural grass] but when he comes back in his skin is red raw.

“We have intervals where we have to cream him up before he goes back out.

“He doesn’t understand. He just wants to play football and he can’t understand why it makes him itchy. It’s going to mean a lot for him. I just hope that I don’t get the mower out and forget that it’s there!”

The generous gift from Eamon came about after Kelly appeared on This Morning [ a local morning show aired on UK television].

She said: “I got a call from them saying Eamon wanted to do a makeover for the garden”.

Peter Drinkell, owner of the company that installed the artificial turf area, said: “This is Eamon’s pet project. He’s met Paul and knows he’s a football fan and he was adamant that he wanted his garden done with an [artificial turf grass system] because Paul can’t touch grass.

“I’m looking forward to watching Paul running around on it.”
